Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 26, 2026
This policy explains what data GuessRift collects and how we use it. We keep it minimal: we only collect what the game needs to work.
What we collect
- Twitch sign-in: when you log in, we store your Twitch user ID and display name to identify your channel and your global elo.
- Gameplay data: for players who guess in a stream, we store a platform user ID, display name, and game statistics (wins, matches, LP, fastest time) to power the rankings.
- Chat messages are read in real time only to detect correct guesses and timing during a live match. We do not store raw chat logs.
- Session cookies are used to keep you signed in.
Connecting YouTube or Kick (optional)
Streamers can optionally connect a YouTube or Kick channel so their viewers on those platforms can play alongside Twitch. Connecting is done through each platform's own secure login (OAuth) - we never see your password.
- YouTube: we request read-only access (the
youtube.readonlyscope) for the single purpose of reading the chat of your own currently-active live broadcast in real time, to detect correct guesses and timing during a match. We resolve only your active broadcast and read its live chat while a match is running. We do not store raw chat, access your videos, subscriptions or any other data, or use this data for advertising. - Kick: we use Kick's official API to read your channel's chat during a match, for the same purpose.
GuessRift's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. GuessRift uses YouTube API Services; by connecting YouTube you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy. You can revoke GuessRift's access anytime by disconnecting in the game settings or at your Google account permissions.
How we share Google user data. GuessRift does not sell, share, transfer, or disclose Google user data - including your YouTube account information and live chat messages - to any third party. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine-learning models. It is used only for the single chat-reading purpose described above.
How we protect Google user data. Live chat is read in real time and processed in memory only - we never store raw chat. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and the OAuth tokens that maintain your channel connection are encrypted at rest in an access-restricted database. Access is limited to the system that reads your live chat, and these tokens are deleted when you disconnect your channel or request deletion.
Cookies & analytics
We use a privacy-focused analytics provider (Himetrica) to understand how the site is used (page views, performance). Analytics is loaded only after you acknowledge the cookie banner. A small cookie remembers your choice, and a session cookie keeps you signed in.
If display ads are enabled in the future, our advertising partner (Google AdSense) may set advertising cookies; users in the EEA/UK are shown a separate consent message for that.
How we use it
Data is used solely to run the game, compute rankings, measure usage, and respond to messages you send us. We do not sell your personal data.
Third parties
We use Twitch for authentication, Google/YouTube and Kick for optional channel connections (chat reading during matches), Riot's Data Dragon for game imagery, Himetrica for analytics, Google AdSense for ads, and infrastructure and email providers to operate the Service. These providers process data only as needed to provide their service.
Your choices
You can stop using the Service at any time. To request deletion of your data, email [email protected] from the address associated with your account.
